Plus, PlayStation fans can play a lot of other great robot games besides Armored Core 6.
Reviews for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon are good, and things will likely get better for it over time. Patches and add-ons have always been a good way for FromSoftware to keep their games going. Does Armed Core 6: Fires of Rubicon have DLC coming out? Anything could happen right now, so it’s hard to say.
While Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is a great robot game for PlayStation, it’s not the only one out there. Ever since the PS1, Sony has been happy about mechs. Sometimes it can be hard to find and play these games, but they are all fun.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
In order to start, let’s look at the newest robot game, Armoured Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. Players take on the role of a silent pilot named Raven who crashes on Earth to do work for their shady boss Walker. After going through a few lessons, players can start adding new robot parts to their mech, like new arms, legs, and weapons. Though the game is very hard, once players figure out the best way to build their mech, even the hardest boss fights become easy. It’s the best movie in the series in a long time.
Another Century’s Episode Portable
The last game in a popular series is Another Century’s Episode Portable. It was also made by FromSoftware and came out for the PSP. Some of the Super Robot Wars games have been released in the United States, so mecha fans may already know about them. For those who don’t know, they are strategy RPGs with mecha from both cartoons and video games. The Episode Portable from Another Century is also a mix mech game, but it is more of an action game. Some well-known shows in the game are the Gundam series, Code Geass, and Eureka Seven.
Armored Warriors
Capcom made a lot of separate fighting games in the 1990s, and Armored Warriors is one of them. It can be played with up to three other people, and you can pick from four different mechs. Some are quick and quick-moving, while others are slow but strong. Armored Warriors is different from most arcade games from this time because it can still be played legally through the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle. That’s how most arcade brawlers of that time were, short. But it will still be fun, especially if you play with two other friends.
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3
There are many Gundam games that fit this theme that could be added. It’s the one anime about mecha that has had games for almost every platform since it began in 1979. Of all of them, though, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 is the one I keep coming back to.
Cel-shading was used to make this game look more like the cartoon as a whole. Action and conversation may happen over and over, but the fan service is through the roof. Plus, you can hack and slash with a friend in co-op mode.
Front Mission 1st: Remake
Most people can play Front Mission 1st: Remake, but it’s not the best game in the series. It’s a tactical role-playing game where players control mechs as they complete tasks that get harder. There are two scenarios that players can choose from, each showing a different side of the war. Like in the Armored Core series, they can also add a lot of parts and guns to their mechs to make them unique. The strategy game will make people think deeply about their moves and also make them question their morals.
Speed Power Gunbike
Without a question, Speed Power Gunbike is the least well-known game on this list. It came out only in Japan for the PS1, just like Another Century’s Episode Portable. It’s important because it’s the first game that Inti Creates ever made. It is the job of Inti Creates to work on action game themes like Bloodstained, Mega Man Zero, and Azure Striker Gunvolt. In Speed Power Gunbike, there are motorbike chases, and the bikes can also be turned into mechs for intense battles. Now it’s hard to find without emulation, but mech fans should look into it because it’s a unique idea.
Titanfall 2
It’s still likely that Titanfall 2 is the best mech game from the last generation of devices. Fans of Respawn Entertainment have been expecting to see what happens next with the series, but the team has been working hard on the Star Wars Jedi series instead.
While those games are fun, Spacebar Clicker is by far the most exciting game I’ve ever played. During some parts of the game, players act like humans and shoot soldiers. The other half is played from the point of view of a mech, and multiplayer makes better use of this view.
Xenogears
Xenogears is a well-known mech-based RPG, but it wasn’t the first one. This is because, after Xenosaga, it is the first game in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. There is a long past behind all three of these franchises, but it’s good to know that they are connected. Like Titanfall 2, there are parts of the game where humans fight and parts where mechs fight. As with other PS1 turn-based RPGs from this time, mechs (called Gears in this game) can also be used for exploring.
Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is another action mech game, but the controls make it feel more like an old-school shmup. In the story, a space miner named Dingo finds a long-lost mech named Jehuty. Since Jehuty is a flying robot, the game feels more like a side-scrolling shooter than a game like Titanfall 2, which takes place on the ground. Hideo Kojima and other people at Konami worked on this project together. For that reason, fans of his can expect a lot of crazy exchanges between the characters and mechs.
