Actions to take when your QuickBooks won’t open

Your business may suffer from losses if QuickBooks fails to launch or keeps crashing on your computer. The methods to remove the launch issues and make the software useful again are mentioned below-

Solution 1- Install the latest QB updates before opening the software

QuickBooks might showcase abnormal behaviour during its launch or while performing accounting tasks if you miss its latest updates. You must always keep your QuickBooks updated to prevent compatibility issues with Windows and remove the glitches that hinder the software functions. Here’s the correct procedure to download and install the latest QB updates-

  1. Launch the QuickBooks application on your system and click the File
  2. Tap Utilities and single-click the Stop hosting multi-user access
  3. Navigate to the Help menu and tap Update QuickBooks Desktop in the options.
  4. Move to the Update Now tab and select the Mark All checkbox to update all the services.
  5. Hit the Reset Update option to delete the previous updates and click Get Updates.
  6. Wait until the files are completely downloaded and reopen your QuickBooks.
  7. Follow the instructions to install the latest software updates on your computer.

If the software fails to run after the update, move to the next solution.

Solution 2- Launch QuickBooks Desktop after mending the QBWUSER.ini file

QuickBooks runs the QBWUSER.ini file during its launch to verify that the user account is authorized to access the financial records. In case the file cannot run due to damage or corruption, QuickBooks instantly falls prey to issues during its launch and fails to run on your system. You’ll have to recreate the damaged file to ensure it doesn’t cause issues during the software launch in the future. Use these steps-

  1. Click the Folder icon in the taskbar to open the file explorer.
  2. Go to C:ProgramDataIntuitQuickBooksXX and right-click the QBWUSER.ini file.
  3. Select the Rename option and type ‘.old’ at the end of the file name.
