Website SEO Audit

How to use

  1. Enter your root domain. Use Generate key to create an 8–128 character key (letters, digits, dashes), or paste your existing key.
  2. Download the key file and upload it to your site root as https://yourdomain.com/<key>.txt. The file must contain only the key (no extra spaces, newlines, or BOM).
  3. Use Check key file is live to confirm the hosted file matches (you can also set a custom key file location).
  4. Paste one URL per line (full URLs or paths), choose an endpoint, then Submit URLs. Submit only URLs that really changed (new, updated, deleted). A 200/202 response means received, not guaranteed indexing.

What it checks

  • IndexNow key format validation
  • Generate key (client-side)
  • Download key file (<key>.txt)
  • Key file live check and content match
  • URL normalization, dedupe, and host validation
  • Batch submission (up to 10,000 URLs)
  • HTTP status and engine response meaning

Frequently asked questions

Does IndexNow help Google indexing?

No. Google does not support IndexNow. Use Google Search Console URL Inspection or sitemaps for Google.

What does a 200 or 202 response mean?

The engine received the URLs (200 OK or 202 Accepted with key validation pending). It does not guarantee indexing or ranking.

Why do I get 403 Forbidden?

Usually the key file is missing, not accessible at the expected URL, or its content does not exactly match the key. Host <key>.txt at the site root (or set Key file location) with only the key inside.

How often should I submit URLs?

Submit only URLs that really changed (new, updated, deleted). Avoid repeatedly resubmitting unchanged URLs; excessive unchanged submissions can get a key flagged.

Instructions & code reference

1. Key file (ownership proof)

Create a plain-text file named <key>.txt at your site root. The file content must be exactly the key. The engine fetches it to confirm you own the host; without it you get 403. No registration is required.

File name:  https://example.com/YOUR_KEY.txt
File body:  YOUR_KEY

Rules:
- Content is only the key (no extra spaces/newlines/BOM).
- If hosted elsewhere, set Key file location to the full URL; submitted URLs must sit under that path.

2. Submit URLs (JSON POST)

Send up to 10,000 URLs per request, about one request per second. URLs must be absolute, on the same host, and should be submitted only when changed.

POST https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow
Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8

{
  "host": "example.com",
  "key": "YOUR_KEY",
  "keyLocation": "https://example.com/YOUR_KEY.txt",
  "urlList": [
    "https://example.com/",
    "https://example.com/blog/new-post"
  ]
}

3. Submit one URL (GET)

Useful for quick tests or single URL pings.

GET https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fblog%2Fnew-post&key=YOUR_KEY

4. curl example

Run from a terminal to see the real HTTP status code.

curl -i -X POST 'https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8' \
  -d '{
    "host": "example.com",
    "key": "YOUR_KEY",
    "urlList": ["https://example.com/", "https://example.com/blog/new-post"]
  }'

5. Response codes

Submitting to one participating endpoint notifies other IndexNow engines (Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam, Yep).

200 OK           URLs received.
202 Accepted Received; key validation pending.
400 Bad Request  Invalid format.
403 Forbidden Key invalid or key file missing/content mismatch.
422 Unprocessable URLs not on host, or key schema mismatch.
429 Too Many Requests Slow down (possible spam flag).
